Which vendors AI names
How often each tracked Australian care-sector software vendor is named when buyers ask AI systems which software to use. Questions cover NDIS, aged care and allied health.
Disclosure. We sell AI-visibility services. Position in this index cannot be purchased, and is never altered for a client. Full disclosure and the client list.
What a change mark means. The mark beside a vendor's name is the change in named in since the previous edition, in percentage points; a row with no mark had no detectable change, which is not the same as no data. Movement is measured over the 650 questions this edition and the previous one both asked. A change is shown only where it is larger than that vendor's own run-to-run variation, taken from the repeat runs each question returned this edition; anything smaller cannot be told apart from asking again and is not shown. The figure in brackets is that variation, in the same unit — the mark is shown because the change is larger than it, so you can check the test rather than take it. It is that vendor's own, taken from that vendor's repeat runs, never one figure applied to everyone. Checked against this edition's own repeat runs, the band marks 5.1% of unchanged comparisons as movement. Rank movement is not shown at all — a rank moves when other vendors move, which is not this vendor being named more or less.
A model changed between editions. ChatGPT answered on gpt-5.6-luna in this edition and on gpt-5.1 in 2026-09; Perplexity answered on fast (served openai/gpt-6-luna) in this edition and on sonar in 2026-09. A change in how often a vendor is named on ChatGPT and Perplexity may reflect the model rather than the vendor, and every movement figure here counts ChatGPT and Perplexity’s answers. Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews offer no model choice, so which model answered is not recorded and may have changed.
From the October 2026 edition, a Google AI Mode or AI Overviews answer is read with the card lists and tables Google shows inside it, not only its paragraphs; earlier editions are not restated, because only their text was kept, so movement on these two surfaces from September to October may partly reflect this change.

Two numbers per vendor. Named in is the share of answers that mentioned them at all. The score combines that with where they appeared, and position is rank among the vendors tracked on this page — so adding a vendor to the index moves the score of everyone below them while named in stays exactly where it was. When a score changes and named in does not, the index grew or other vendors moved; nothing changed about how often AI named this one. Vendors whose score reads the same share a rank.
By sector
The overall table mixes three markets. A specialist can look mid-table across all of them and lead its own. Read the sector you sell into.

By sector and service
Rank within each cell, out of the vendors AI named when Australian buyers asked about that service. A blank is not a low score — it is a vendor the engines never named on those questions. A question can ask about more than one service, and a whole-of-market question (“what software do NDIS providers use in Australia”) asks about none, so the cells do not add up to the edition.

This grid reports one edition. Movement inside a cell is not shown: a cell is scored over the questions that ask about that service, and comparing a cell across editions means comparing it over the questions both editions asked. That is a different measurement from the one above and it is not published here.
What AI read
The domains AI systems drew on most while answering these questions. A source appearing here is not an endorsement of it, and several are not vendors at all — comparison articles, directories and community threads carry considerable weight in this category.

What we asked
656 questions, put to every engine this edition reports. Not every question produces an answer on every engine: Google AI Mode answered 646. A question with no answer is recorded as no surface, never as a score of zero. By sector: NDIS 225, Aged care 221, Allied health 210. Every question is Australian-scoped. The set for this edition is the one recorded here; month-over-month movement is measured over the questions this edition and the previous one both asked, so growing the set does not move a delta.
| Question type | Count | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Conversational | 328 | 50% |
| Broad category | 80 | 12% |
| Compliance and regulation | 62 | 9% |
| Notes and records | 46 | 7% |
| Billing and claiming | 39 | 6% |
| Comparison and alternatives | 35 | 5% |
| Situational (size, stage, setting) | 30 | 5% |
| Price | 20 | 3% |
| Rostering and workforce | 16 | 2% |
77 of these 656 name a vendor in the question — "alternatives to X", "X vs Y". Those are real buyer queries, but a vendor named in the question is named back almost every time, and only a handful of vendors get asked about that way. They were asked and their answers are kept; the scores on this page are computed without them.
One example of each:
| best NDIS software in Australia |
| compare NDIS software options in Australia |
| what software do NDIS providers need for the new claims system in Australia |
| NDIS software for a provider with 20 support workers in Australia |
| cheapest NDIS practice management software in Australia |
| we run a small NDIS business in Australia and we're trying to work out which software to go with, what would you suggest |
| NDIS software that syncs invoices with Xero in Australia |
| NDIS software with progress notes that hold up in an audit Australia |
| NDIS software that stops staff writing notes in the wrong file Australia |
Half the set is phrased as a search query and half the way a person actually types — the same buying intents, asked both ways, so the difference between them can be measured rather than assumed. Measured in the 2026-08 edition: asked conversationally, these systems named about a quarter fewer vendors.
Method
Disclosure. We sell AI-visibility services. Position in this index cannot be purchased, and is never altered for a client. Clients are named in the methodology of each edition published during the engagement and for twelve months after it ends; where a genuine legal or contractual restriction prevents naming one, that edition gives the number withheld instead. We do not guarantee placement in any AI system's answers; no published research demonstrates that any technique reliably produces one.
Clients appearing in this edition: none this edition.

| Runs per question | 3 per engine |
| Runs | 7,872 asked · 7,741 answered · 6,850 scored.Of the runs that did not produce an answer: 127 came back with no AI answer (Google shows none for some questions), recorded as no surface rather than as a score of zero; 4 were not returned by our collection — a supplier or network error on our side, not an answer, and left out of every figure. Questions naming a vendor are asked and stored but excluded from the scores. |
| Vendors tracked | 116 — the exact number covered, no more |
| Scan date | 2026-10-13 |
| Score | mean(presence x prominence) x 100, averaged over
question-and-engine cells rather than runs. Presence is how often a vendor is named. Prominence
weights position — but position among the vendors this index tracks, not position in
the answer: a vendor named after two products we do not track still counts as first
(1st = 1.00, 2nd = 0.80, 3rd = 0.65, 4th = 0.55, 5th = 0.45, 6th+ = 0.35). Adding a vendor to the
registry therefore moves the scores below it even when nothing about AI has changed, so every
edition is rescored against the current registry before any month-over-month figure is published. |
| Answer stability | When an AI system named a vendor at all, it named them again on every repeat of the same question 30% of the time. AI answers vary between identical queries, so visibility is a probability rather than a fixed position; we publish that rather than hide it. |
| Deflection rate | 0.0% of answers named no tracked vendor but did name a software review directory — Capterra, G2, GetApp, NDIS Growth, Provider Institute, SafetyCulture, Software Advice. The higher it goes, the more often AI answers a buying question with somewhere to go looking rather than something to look at. |
The instrument is fixed for an edition — the models, the engines and the question set. Changing any of them changes which vendors get named, so a month-over-month figure computed across a change would be measuring this index rather than the market. That is why each is recorded above. The question set does change between editions — it grows, and a question that turns out to be aimed at the wrong market is retired — but movement is measured over the questions both editions asked, so a change to the set cannot move a delta.
This measures how often each vendor is named by AI systems. It is not an assessment of product quality, suitability or compliance, and should not be read as one. API-based engines are not identical to their consumer apps; results may differ from what a buyer sees in the app. Raw outputs are retained for three years. Corrections: email corrections@namedindex.com and we will amend and note it in the next edition.
